The Reading Land Use Allocation Model (LUAM)
The LUAM is build around a linear programming model of agriculture
in England and Wales which has been designed to assist policy-makers
and their advisers in the analysis of the likely changes in agricultural
practices, and the environmental impacts associated with them,
consequent upon changes in policies or market conditions.
The LUAM has been under periodic development since 1985; several
UK Government departments and agencies have supported this work.
The development of the model has involved 13 staff members from
the Centre for Agricultural Strategy at The University of Reading
and the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and NERC's Institute
of Terrestrial Ecology (ITE).
